Family and Community Support Services Association of Alberta

 
Mandate:
The Family and Community Support Services Association of Alberta (FCSSAA) unites and strengthens the Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) community by representation and advocacy on behalf of members boards.
The role of the FCSSAA Board is:
- to listen to its members;
- to identify common concerns and issues related to FCSS;
- to communicate those issues to other members and to the provincial government, along with proposed solutions;
- to support communities by developing tools which meet local needs and mandates.

10 Regional Representatives, 1 for each of the 8 FCSS regions (Calgary-Bow River & Edmonton-Evergreen have 2 each)
5 Staff representatives from the Director's Network

The 17 member Board of Directors oversees the operations of the FCSSAA:
- the President and Vice-President are elected at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in November every year;
- the 10 Regional Representatives are elected at fall regional meetings prior to the November AGM;
- the 5 staff representatives from the Directors' Network are appointed annually at the September Directors' Network business meeting.

The City of Calgary may only appoint one (1) Regional Representative for the Calgary-Bow River FCSS region.

Authority  Description Decision
1. 1996 January 08, CS95-58 Approval of The City's continued participation in the FCSSAA. Confirmation of 1995 Representative.
2. 1999 February 17, CPS99-16 Approval of The City's continued participation in the FCSSAA. Confirmation of 1999 Representative, to expire on Council's Organizational Meeting day October 2000.
3. 2000 July 24, CPS2000-52 The Province has commenced a review of the FCSS funding model which determines the Provincial contribution to The City's community social service funding.
4. 2001 October 01, CPS2001-55 Review of FCSS Funding Framework. The scope of the review was to evaluate all current policies and practices as well as opportunities to collaborate with other local funding organizations. The objective of the review was to develop a new funding framework, which achieved a balance between maintaining accountability for public funds and respecting the autonomy and professionalism of the Calgary's not-for-profit social service agencies.

13. 2007 November 12, CPS2007-51 Strengthening the FCSS Program; Direct Administration to establish an FCSS Sustainability Forum to bring together all stakeholders to develop collective strategies and actions to sustain FCSS and report back to the FCSS Calgary Board twice per year.
14. 2008 November 24, CPS2008-95 Appoint a member of the SPC on Community and Protective Services (CPS) as The City of Calgary representative to the FCSSAA Board for a one-year term; All future appointments to the FCSSAA Board be incorporated as part of the Organizational Meeting of Council, effective 2009; Secure a date for a special meeting of the SPC on CPS for FCSS Calgary Funding Reviews; Incorporate the date of that special meeting into Council's calendar, effective 2010.
15. 2013 October 21, Bylaw 40M2011 coming into force To discontinue the use of the title "Alderman" in favour of the title "Councillor".
